May the transformations begin!

It's time to fight back against the cold, dry spring with our ultimate guide to spring lawn revival and tips for establishing wildflowers this May.

Repair and Reseeding
Lawn repair can be carried out successfully in May as air and soil temperatures rise. Choose from one of our quality lawn grass seed mixes and landscaping grass seed mixes and remember to keep the area damp to improve germination and establishment.

Fertilising
Spring fertiliser is best applied now to strengthen grass into the summer. For optimum timing and quick results, apply when rainfall is imminent.

Scarifying and Aerating
Aerating with a lawn aerator or garden fork is a valuable method of increasing airflow and improving resilience through the summer. Focus on high traffic areas if you are unable to do the whole area - think football goal mouths or around the barbecue! With warm and dry weather seemingly set in, keep any scarification gentle.

Mowing

More frequent and lower cuts can now be made, but consider leaving a small area to grow longer to join in with the National Trust's 'No Mow May'. Dandelions and other flowering species can be beneficial to provide an early pollen source for bees and butterflies when other flowers are still maturing.

Weed Control
Whilst weeding in May is fine, consider waiting until summer when weeds are easier to identify and remove. Plus, you'll be offering a further helping hand to pollinators while pollen and nectar sources are scarce.
